Tumblr is an American-based site used for microblogging. It was launched in 2007 by David Karp. This site allows you to share multimedia in the form of a short blog. Users can also submit questions along with the instant messaging feature. This feature allows users to chat among themselves. There is also a facility of group chap where people share their posts that disappear after 24 hours.

Tumblr allows you to follow blogs of your interest that shows up more suggested posts from those blogs on your dashboard. You can follow a blogger without personally him. There is no facility to add people to your friend list.

Besides the advantages, there are several disadvantages too. Negative comments are worse in Tumblr as you can write anything and everything in the comment section. Rumors spread here like a forest fire. There is a difference between repost and reblogging, and people often repost the original as a different post with a mixed response. As a result, works are often stolen or republished without appreciating the original blogger.
